Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Childhood Milestones protects your family’s memories. Your memories are personal, so this Privacy Policy explains what information Childhood Milestones collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it in plain language, because you shouldn’t need a lawyer to understand what happens to your child’s photos.

The short version

  • Your memories are private by default. Only you and the family members you invite can see them.
  • We never sell your personal information and we never use your children’s photos, videos or voice recordings for advertising or to train third-party AI models.
  • You can export or delete your data at any time.
  • We designed Childhood Milestones for parents and guardians (18+). Children do not create accounts.

1. Who this privacy policy applies to

Childhood Milestones (“Childhood Milestones,” “we,” “us”) operates the Childhood Milestones mobile app for iPhone and Android and the website childhoodmilestones.com (together, the “Services”). 2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information: your name, email address, password (stored in encrypted form) and, if you choose, a profile photo.
  • Family content: the memories you add — photos, videos, voice recordings, journal entries, milestones, activities, time capsule messages, and details such as your child’s first name, nickname and date of birth that you choose to enter.
  • Family members you invite: the name and email address of people you invite to view or contribute to your child’s timeline.
  • Communications: messages you send us through support, the contact form or email.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage data: device type, operating system, app version, language, crash reports and basic usage events (for example, which features people use) to keep the app working and improve it.
  • Website data: when you visit our website we may use essential cookies and privacy-friendly analytics. See our Cookie Policy.

Information from app stores

Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) processes all subscriptions. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, but we never receive or store your full payment card details.

3. How we use your information

  • Running the Services: we store, organize and display your memories, send time capsule messages on the date you choose, and let invited family members see what you share with them.
  • Personalization: for example, we suggest activity ideas matched to your child’s age.
  • Support: we answer your questions and respond to your requests.
  • Security: we keep the Services secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • Service messages: we send important notices (for example, about security or billing). Marketing emails, however, are optional, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Legal compliance: finally, we meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use your family content to build advertising profiles.

Where data protection laws such as the GDPR or Ecuador’s Organic Law on Personal Data Protection apply, we process personal data on the basis of: performing our contract with you (providing the Services), your consent (for example, optional marketing emails or voice recordings), our legitimate interests (keeping the Services safe and improving them), and compliance with legal obligations.

5. Children’s privacy

Childhood Milestones is a service for parents and legal guardians. Children do not create accounts and the app is not directed to children for their own use. Instead, a parent or guardian adds and controls all content about their children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, please contact us and we will delete it.

6. How information is shared

  • With people you choose: family members you invite can see the content you share with them.
  • With service providers: trusted providers that host data, process app-store subscriptions, send emails or provide crash reporting, under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us.
  • For legal reasons: if required by law or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or others.
  • Business transfers: if Childhood Milestones takes part in a merger or acquisition, this privacy policy will still protect your information, and we will notify you first.

7. Data security and storage

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls and regular backups. No system is 100% secure, so we also encourage you to use a strong, unique password. Your data may be stored and processed in countries other than your own; when we transfer data internationally we use appropriate safeguards.

8. How long we keep your data

We keep your account and memories for as long as your account is active. If you cancel a paid subscription, your memories remain in your account and you can still export them. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data and content within 30 days, except where we must keep limited information for legal, security or accounting reasons. Meanwhile, our backups overwrite old copies on a rolling basis.

9. Your rights under this privacy policy

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to certain processing and to withdraw consent. You can:

  • Edit or delete memories directly in the app.
  • Export your memories from the app’s settings.
  • Delete your account from the app or by following the steps on our Delete Your Account page.
  • Contact us at support@childhoodmilestones.com for any other request. We respond within 30 days.

California residents: you have the right to know, delete and correct personal information and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

10. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy as the Services evolve. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The “Last updated” date below shows when this policy was last revised.
